Two brothers, the Thai coastline, and the value of slowing down together.
In October 2024, my brother Kemal and I travelled to Thailand together. The photographs from that journey bring back the atmosphere immediately: tropical trees, a sky heavy with clouds, quiet stretches of sand and the unmistakable feeling of being somewhere far from the routines of everyday life.
We have both lived through different chapters and responsibilities, and a trip like this offers something valuable: time to simply be brothers. There is no need for a grand itinerary when the company is good and the scenery invites you to slow down.
Some of my favourite images are not of famous landmarks. They are of small resort cottages, hammocks, a swimming pool overlooking the sea, and the places where we stopped to sit and talk. Those are the details that make a journey feel personal.
Thailand has a way of making ordinary moments memorable. The palms leaning over the water, the open-air spaces, and the changing light along the coast all became part of the story we brought home.
Life at a Slower Pace
Looking through these photographs now, I remember the pleasure of having nowhere urgent to be. Our days included time near the water and around the resort, surrounded by greenery and the sounds of a tropical coastline.
The weather was not always picture-postcard sunshine. Some of the most beautiful views came beneath a soft grey sky, with the sea reflecting the changing clouds. I like that the photographs show the trip as it really looked rather than a polished travel advertisement.
The Moments That Matter
What stays with me most is the time spent with Kemal. We shared meals, enjoyed the water and took photographs of each other simply enjoying the holiday.
Years later, a picture of two brothers smiling together can say more than a long list of places visited.
